How To Build A Large Hamster’s Popsicle Sticks House

When it comes to hamster’s house, you can purchase one of many models available at the moment, or you can build one. Here is the complete guide on how to build a popsicle hamster’s house which is ideal for most of bigger cages.

You will need:

  • 446 popsicle sticks
  • Cutting tools
  • Ruler
  • PVA glue
  • String
  • Sandpaper
  • Pencil

  1. Build a floor

This is the first step. All you have to do is to place 100 popsicle sticks flat and make them in brick wall pattern. Then add vertical sticks from the behind and glue them together. This creates a large piece of flat surface, which is going to be your floor.

Now, repeat the step with 54 sticks, which are going to be used to create a top floor.

  1. Top and bottom borders

Place 8 sticks vertically and add 4 sticks cut in half at the bottom. Glue them together. These are top and bottom borders, which are important as well.

  1. Built the main wall

For the main wall, you will need 31 sticks. Place them vertically, cut holes for windows and doors and glue all the sticks together. Reinforce areas around the windows and doors with additional popsicle sticks. Make a door that fits in the shape you left for them. Attach two strings ate the top and glue them. They can be easily opened by your hamster.

  1. Linking together

Now you will have to link together all the elements we have constructed by now. Use additional popsicle sticks to reinforce the walls.

  1. Make a house pattern

For this step, you will have to repeat the steps we mentioned above. Make a floor, walls and a roof. Link them together and reinforce them if needed. The roof should have 13 sticks which sit directly on the walls. Add the roof and glue them. In addition, one wall should have a hole.

  1. Add floor posts

Glue two sticks together and make them in L shape. Glue them to the bottom floor and reinforce with small, cut pieces of sticks. These are supporting posts, so make them as strong as you can.

  1. Make stairs and link them

Glue two sticks one on another in order to make them long. Repeat the step. Now, cut small pieces in them in order to make leader shape. Glue additional sticks and attach the stairs to the upper and bottom floor.  Repeat the step and make a stairwell from the bottom to the first floor.

  1. Built rail all over the house

Add half cut sticks all around the bottom and upper floor. Link them with whole sticks in order to create a rail. This is an essential tip and hamsters seem to like the addition.

  1. Add bedding

On the top floor, you will have to build a small, square-shaped bedding. Just link sticks together in order to create the shape of a bed. Fill it with bedding and you are done.

  1. Place the house in the cage

Wait at least a few hours for the glue to dry. The best is to leave the house overnight to dry completely. Place it in a cage and you are done. Your hamster has a wonderful house to live in.

Summary

This is a complicated hamster’s house to build, but if you have time, it won’t be. Be patient and use your hamster to help you. Release him in the house while you are building it and watch for his desires, movement and possible flaws he can discover.
